“The beguiling 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Giuseppe Tassi is dark and brooding, slowly blossoming with notes of sour cherry, mentholated herbs, spiced orange peels and hints of animal musk. It’s deeply textural, seeming velvety at times and at others lifted and pure, with dense black fruits wrapped snugly in a complex web of salty minerals and fine tannins. There’s so much power here; yet balance is maintained throughout, as the Giuseppe Tassi finishes structured and youthfully poised. This is full of so much potential, but I’d advise losing this in the cellar for six years or more.” – Eric Guido

“This new release from Tassi is recognized by its more concentrated fruit. The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Giuseppe Tassi is a grounded wine that sits squarely on the palate with dark plum, blackberry, potting soil and cured tobacco. It is fermented in cement, unlike the other wines. The wine shows a more austere personality compared to the other new releases from the Tassi family. I wonder if that extra muscle and power is an homage to the patriarch Giuseppe, to whom this wine is dedicated. I would give this wine a few extra years to age, and once it's ready, pair it with tagliata di manzo with black truffle shaved over.” – Monica Larner
